A Bit About Me

Hey Everyone,

I am Pete and I am the founder of the Story Telling in Presentations website and information centre, I have been doing business and training presentations for almost 20 years. I have learned a lot about what makes a good presentation (and a bad one) in that time and I can help you avoid many of the mistakes that I made along the way

Let me start by telling you a bit about my background and how I got to this point

I Didn’t Start With A College Education

I wasn’t a big fan of school and left as soon as I could, I went into an apprenticeship as a vehicle technician and really enjoyed the practical nature of the role, especially the problem solving as I loved to learn new skills. After about 8 years of this I realized that I wanted to learn more and so I became a sales person at a multi-national company employing over 60,000 people worldwide. I had to learn a huge amount fast, but I successfully progressed through the company until I was a senior manager looking after several hundred people.

One of the things that always helped me to progress was that I really enjoyed learning but I enjoyed even more sharing what I had learned with others. I took an immense amount of pride in seeing other people do well and develop and this helped me to build really strong teams, I have enjoyed developing others ever since.

I have been in this role for over 10 years now and am still learning every day, one of the areas that I had to learn the most was in presenting, initially I wasn’t comfortable presenting and didn’t even know how to use PowerPoint let alone structure a solid engaging presentation.

I Couldn’t Figure Out How To Use Story Telling

One of the areas where I had the most to learn was presenting, I always wanted to do good presentations for the people I was presenting to and I would take the responsibility very seriously. I would invest a lot of time in my presentations to make sure the content was good, I would practice them to make sure my timings were on point and that I knew my content well. But over the last few years I always felt I was missing something to bring my presentations to the next level and really engage the audience.

So I spent a lot of time on the internet, watching Ted talks and reading guides, everything seemed to point to Story Telling and I found pages and pages of content about WHY I should use Story Telling. So much in fact that I really wanted to use it in my presentations but I really struggled with finding useful help on HOW to actually use Story Telling in a practical way. This left me very frustrated as every time I tried to use it I could not get it to fit with my content and so I reverted to my normal style.

I spoke to a lot of people that claimed to use StoryTelling but I quickly realized that they actually had one story (usually about themselves) that they told when speaking to a new audience but it couldn’t be used more than once so was pretty much no good to me.

Once I learned the simple steps of actually using Story Telling it made the whole process so much easier and now I can integrate it into presentations about almost anything

Everyone Should Be Able To Use StoryTelling

As a manager one of the best parts of my role is helping others to develop and reach their potential, using Story Telling in your presentations will help you to develop as a presenter and improve your presentations massively. Whether you still want to learn more about WHY you should use Story Telling or if like me you are ready to learn about HOW you can integrate it into your presentations then my aim is for this website to help you develop the knowledge you need and give you the tools to create engaging presentations on any topic

If you ever have any questions or if I can help in anyway, please feel free to leave a comment below and I will be more than happy to help you out if I can
